THIRTEEN I just ran across a huge Banca that is a size I can use to go just about anywhere in the country. So, I will have one for just local day type stuff like local diving and fishing. The one below would do well for that:
and
one like the photos further below that will allow us to go literally
anywhere in the philippines in pretty much any kind of weather.
This particular Banca is from a dive resort called Sipilay Dive Resort. They made it by hand there. When I heard the price I almost died. Nonetheless, I will be building mine in Mindanao where it is much cheaper to build and you can still find the really hard woods required for a boat that will endure. Lynns brother is a fisherman, has his own pump (banca) boat and knows about as much about bancas as anyone could and he will be helping us. The one I build will be similar in size (75 feet long and 15 feef wide) and have creature comforts for the longer trips such as a good kitchen, comfortable bed, and bathroom. A comfortable steering station, big ladder for getting in and out of the water with heavy dive equipment and lots of rod holders through out the deck. There will also be a well insulated hold for fish and whatever else we bring up. Finally a nice table and chairs on deck to admire views. The boat will be powered by a Yanmar Marine engine. It will have GPS, Depth, Sonar and a 50mm Machine gun to ward off pirates LOL
What is so really cool is for not alot of money we can have 3 or 4 full time helpers constantly cleaning and maintaining the Banca and having it ready at a moments notice to get out of Dodge. All we have to do is get some groceries, beer and ice and we are ready to hit the water. I am hoping to do alot of island hopping with friends and family. As soon as I get permanently settled this is going to be a great place for people to hang out for months at a time and see what living is really all about (the way I see it anyway). 2005
