FOURTEEN

When we first got here, Lynn subscribed us to a high speed wireless Internet service called IT-Outlook. We really had no choice as they were the only company to service the area we are in (In Bacong between Dumaguete and Zambouanguita). Their website makes all these promises about how good and reliable they are promising 24/7 512kbps upload and download speed and near 100% uptime. What a bunch of bullcrap. The reality is they suck and we are lucky to have service on any kind of consistent basis. It always seems when you need the service the most is when they are down. So I call them and they keep making promises about how they are fixing things and how all this new equipment is coming in that will solve everything but, it never does. One thing I know for sure is whenever it rains heavy here the whole system collapses and it can rain quite often here.

I guess we should have known when we first got here and they tried to hose Lynn and by charging her 30,000 pesos to put up a huge 100 foot antenna. She talked them down to 10,000. Still too high as their original quoted install charge was supposed to be only 3,500. However they didn't realize they would need an antenna for where we live and thus tried top pass the cost on to us. Oh and the monthly service charge for service is a ridiculous 3,500 or $65.00USD.

Well I have just about reached my limit with them. I have no plans on paying them anything for February. Furthermore if they don't return the 10,000 install charge we will be the proud new owners of a 100 foot antenna until they do. To say the least I am pissed and will not be taken advantage of.

Sounds like I have a stressful life but actually no. I am so relaxed like never before in my life and the Internet thing as aggravating as it is is not so major just inconvenient 3rd world type stuff that can actually happen anywhere.

February 5, 2005 - Lynn is now in Davao where she is seeing her family and son. She went there on Friday. As part of her trip she is going to Samal Island to try and find us my dream of a property with a beautiful white beach and blue water blah, blah, blah...LOL. Getting boring isn't it. Anyway, this island is about one km offshore from Davao City. You can get there by a barge or pump boat in about 20 minutes. It is home to one of the most famous resorts in the Philippines called Pearl Farm. The beaches are white and the water a beautiful turquoise teaming with sealife.

Well the good, no I mean great news is Lynn has found us a fantastic property in Limao at an unreal price. 2.5 million pesos for 27,500sqm meters or P87sqm. For all you imperial system people like me that is 6 1/2 acres for $49,000 USD, and this includes 80 meters long (260') of white sand beachfront. Holy shit right. Yea. However, we have to painfully wait for two months to see if we can close. Then we will be out of here and on our way to build our future paradise. Lynn is very excited about the pool even though she can't swim. Told her I am going make it at least five feet deep. Lynn is only 4' 11". Guess she has to learn to swim LOL

Oh and Lynn found yet another property that is 2.6 hectares. It is located on the other side of the island in Aumbay and has some beachfront with fine brown sand but is mostly mangroves. She wants to buy that one as someone suggested it will go up 7 times in value within 2 years. It faces the Davao Gulf. Price P364,260 per hectare ($7,800 x 2.6 = $20,280).

We hope to still buy the lot here in Dumaguete as an investment but as things stand now it doesn't look good with all the title problems we are having with properties we have seen so far.
