SEVENTEEN

Every Friday night we find ourselves going to a resort called South Seas. We were turned on to the place by William and his wife Tessie.

Tessie and William

Again being redundant, they are really nice people like so many others we have met here. William has put this thing together where on Friday night a collection of mostly American and Canadian (and a couple of other nationalities) couples join there for dinner. It is a great way to meet new people and make new friends while having a pretty good buffet dinner.

Saturday February 18, Today we went to visit Siquihor to see some property. Of course we were totally mislead about the property we were to see. We were told it was white sand beachfront. When we got there it was mangrove beach frontage.

LOL Nevertheless, we got to see a little of Siquihor and it was very nice. We were on the west side of the island and the beaches were white sand and the water a beautiful green/blue.

March 1st, Silvana and a friend of hers who teaches Art History at the University of the Philippines, came to Dumaguete to research a statue made by an Italian Sculpturer name Mondi. I picked them up at the airport at noon and took them to the Bethel Hotel which was a short distance to the statue. We had luch at Why Not and then I left them until Dinner. Picked them up with Lynn around 8:00pm and then we then headed for dinner at La Bas restaurant. Great for Fresh Seafoods. We ate like pigs having fresh Oysters, Giant Prawns, Blue Marlin, Grilled Giant Squid, Salads, Soup and vegetables. And lets not forget about dessert.... all for about $20.00 USD.

Silvana's plan was to go to Bacolod the next day and I thought why not go and take them. There were some good reasons; I had never been there, Rio was buried on Charlie's Family property which was on the way to bacolod and finally my truck needed some servicing and there was a Ford Delaer located there. It was about a four hour trip. The roads were just fine on the Orriental side of Negros but really sucked on the Occidental side becasue of all the wear and ear by the sugar trucks. Needless to say, it was no fun but thank goodness for the good company and conversation. Got to Charlies around noon and went to see Rio. She (her ashes) are being held in a nice small church built by her mother-in-law. It is located on their property right next to their house. All this is surrounded by about 5,000 hectares (10,000 acres) of mango trees.

We got to Bacolod around 4pm, left the truck at Ford and then taxied to the Business Hotel where we stayed. Overnight room rate was 1,100php. Hotel was located in the center of town. Met some of Silvana's artist friends, had dinner with them at a Japanese restaurant, more good conversation and was in bed by 10pm. Next day I picked up my truck at the Ford Dealer and headed back to Dumaguete by around 9am. The trip back was considerably faster as I flew most of the way there at 100kmh plus.
