EIGHTEEN

March 7 and we we are planning on going away for three weeks. Michael and Palan are throwing a going away party for us as well as William and Tessie, Marshall and Arlene, Bob and Gina, who like us are also leaving for various lengths of time.

Well we may be close to finally getting a beach front lot. The property we looked at is in Dauin and this time may become a reality (see page 16 for pictures). The price is actually reasonable for this location at 1,300php per sqm. It is about 3,000 sqm and has a great beach frontage of about 70 meters and a depth of 45 meters. Best of all, the road access would be good. Just have to keep our fingers crossed. We have some local guy name Aires handling the investigation and follow up for us while we are away. Apparently he has a good reputation for getting things done. Let's hope he doesn't fuck this up.

Today March 10 we left for Cebu on the first leg of a three week tour. This tour will include 3 days in Cebu, 7 days in Siarago the island I originally was planning to see first before my illness. After Siarago it's off to lynn's home city of Davao for 7 days and then finally to Manila for the wedding of my niece Gabby Roa, daughter of Ruby and Buddy. We will be back home in Dumaguete on April 3.

We are particularly looking forward to Siargao and plan to spend a good part of the stay there looking for a beachfront (of course) property to buy. This island has a very realistic chance of truly becoming that next Boracay everyone is trying to lay claim to. Siargao does have all the right ingredients. On the beautiful Pacific side of the country, pure white sand beaches, the best surfing in Asia, great scuba diving and snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, exploring......on and on. Sounds like a paradise doesn't it. Anyway, we are excited about finding out for ourselves and perhaps grabbing a piece of this paradise.

Arrived on the island of Cebu at around 10:30am. On the road to Cebu City we ran into a very old and beautiful Church. Also a couple of nice beach resort areas and a cool cliff top restaurant with glorious views of the sea.

When we get to Cebu City we are staying in the most popular hotel for Americans called Eddies's. It's supposed to have nice comfortable rooms and a restaurant with some good ol Americano food.

Arrived here around 3:00pm. Have to admit it's really great here at Eddies. The room is very comfortable and has very hot water so I know I will find myself taking about 3 - 4 showers a day. Downstairs in the restaurant I met Tom from Michigan who is like Radar on Mash or Huggy Bear on Starsky and Hutch or finally the actor james Gardner in the Great Escape. And I say this in only a good way. Tom and his GF Marlene are two really nice, honest and straight forward people who can and do make anything happen that you can imagine and desire. I needed directions to the Ford Dealership and he had it for me in 2 seconds. A nice restaurant with a spectacular view of the City and again 2 seconds flat.

They will handle your visas, help single gentlemen find you a nice girl to screw for a night or week or marry, tour you around the city, rent you a motor scooter, plan you a party, No Bullshit....just about anything you can think of they can make happen. Their prices are more than fair and they are a pleasure to know and do business with.

March 12....Went to Mactan Island looking for banca builders. Looked at a couple of big boats and the prices seemed reasonable nevertheless, will probbly not build one here. Most likely we will do it on the island of Balut where lynn is from. It will be much cheaper and of the same quality. I may keep the door open if I want to do it in fiberglass as Mactan will be the best bet for that.

last night we went to eat at a local grill restaurant. It was great. We had grilled oysters, kingfish, bonesless bamus, some cerviche and a fresh salad all for about $6.50. There are many restaurans like this located on a road that leads to the Waterfront Insular Hotel. You can't miss them.

March 13...I got up early and took the truck over to the Ford Dealership. I gave them a long list of stuff to be done. Will pick it back up on April 2rd when we come back to Cebu. We went to the Ferry around 10am. Presently I am sitting in the main salon updating this site. I can't tell you what a horrible ferry this is and what a horrible ferry line Sulpicio is. There is another ferry company called Super Ferry and I took that one to Dumaguete from Manila. It was quite nice and comfortable. To make an analogy to this Sulpicio Shit I mean Ship I am on, the Super Ferrey could only be compared to a Seaborn Cruise ship (one of if not the best cruise ship line in the world at $1000 per day per person).

Someone just puked not 10 feet from where I am sitting and it took about 30 minuted before anyone cleaned it up. I could go on but you get the picture. The good news is it is only 5 more hours until we reach Surigao (gateway to Siargao island). And thankfully when we go Davao by this same ferry, it will be at night when we are sleeping.
