THIRTY So we arrived in our old friend Dumaguete April 18 and proceeded to the Bethel hotel where we stayed for 5 days. During this time Lynn went around to look at houses and Apartments for us to rent. She found us a 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath apartment in the northern part of Dumaguete which would be very convenient to Joe's school and closer to the Golf courses. The house is Mexican style and built very well. We decided to take it starting May 1. The rent was 10,000 peso per month and they would put in a hot water heater for us.
I Forgot to mention that Joe would be entering the 7th grade which here is considered high school. The name of the school he will be attending is Siliman High School and is considered one of the best in the country. We are hoping that it will give him the needed preparation for his eventual move to a Private High School in Canada or the States in two years which represent grade 9, 10, 11and 12. Dumaguete is known and very reputable for its schools and has five colleges/universities as well as numerous elementary and grade level schools. In fact Dumaguete City was more or less put on the map by the Siliman University back in 1901. We will have to furnish the apartment as with most rental places it comes unfurnished: This means a new refrigerator, two air conditioners, a fan, dishes, 2 Beds, Couch, Dining Table and Chairs, Glasses, Office Desk and Chairs and a bunch of other household items. The owners of the apartment we rented were kind enough to allow us to store the the stuff we brought with us in the truck. We then went off to Cebu where I would catch a flight to Manila and Lynn and Joe would go to Davao. Of course the truck would make a visit to Ford for a check up from the brutal RoRo trip of earlier. Each of our trip purposes was to arrange shipment back to Dumaguete of the rest of our stuff. Once in Manila I arranged with William to have a 10 foot container delivered to the Cerebral Palsy center where my stuff was being stored. We loaded the container and I rode it on the container truck to the port where it would be placed on a ferry for delivery to our place in Dumaguete by May 3rd. The cost of this 10 foot container point to point was about $450.00. Not to bad for point to point load and unload. Lynn's trip to Davao involved ordering a container to ship the rest of our stuff and a bunch of hers. We met back in Cebu a few days later, picked up the truck from Ford happy from a grease job and came back to Dumaguete where we settled into our new digs.
The container from Manila arrived May 3rd and everything arrived unscathed. I was excited by the prospect of getting my paintings on the walls. May Well we are getting settled into our new place and loving it. Joe is great to have around and I am finding fatherhood not as challenging as I thought. He is such a good kid and we get along great. However, I will reserve judgment for when he officially starts school June 12 and the two harrowing teenager years after. I finally have some of my artwork hanging. I'm so happy YEA!!!
