THIRTY FIVE

Lynn got out of her chair, very nervous about this situation but yet playing it cool calmly asked the guy what he wanted. He said he was collecting donations for medicine purchases for the poor. At the same time he was reaching/fidgeting behind his back where he had a waist pack perhaps looking for a weapon or something. She then asked him nicely but firmly to please get off the porch as there was a guard in the compound and she would give him a donation if he waited outside the gate. Before she gave him the donation she asked him to remove his cap so she could see his face better. He gave him 30 pesos after which he ran like hell probably to a waiting scooter outside on the street.

Lynn then called me and I came home. Shortly after my arrival we went to the police who upon hearing Lynn's description of the guy and his methods knew exactly who she was talking about. They plan to bring a photo to the house later today or tomorrow to verify it is the same person. Apparently this guy is indeed a drug addict and uses this donation collection operandi to steal money . He has already spent a couple of years in prison for this and only got out in the past few months. The policeman also said Lynn's being firm yet nice to the guy and not panicking probably saved her from whatever negative might have ensued. I am just relived nothing happened and I would truly hate to be him when the police catch him as they surely will. In the meanwhile, there is a chance that he may come back here so until he is caught I have decided to hire a guard to watch the house form 7:00am until 5:30pm everyday. It will cost us about $100 a month.

I know this must make this country sound just horrible but the benefits really do outweigh the negatives.

June 22 - It's an outrage I'll tell ya! Lynn went to the OBG/Gynecologist today to get a first check up and the Doctor had the audacity to charge her $3.25 for the visit. What is this world coming to.

Lynn took a picture of her Dad a few months ago. This is the first time I have seen a photo of a living corpse. Am I right! Francisco is 85 and literally never without a cigarette in his hand (except when sleeping I am told) and has been smoking this way for 64 years. Apparently he is in excellent health with no lung problems. Despite looking like this you have to applaud him -12 kids, over 26 grandchildren and still going strong. I have Lynn's permission to do this.

June 27 - Today I went for a massage and they were promoting this Hot Stone type. I decided to try it. The way it works as follows: the massage therapist sanitizes the stones (which are very smooth) and heats them in 120 and 150 degree water. She/He then uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another. Sometimes they just place the stones on the spinal area and leave them there for awhile.

It was kind of cool but I am not quite sure if I will try it again or go back to my Thai. Searching on the Internet I saw that in the US a typical Hot Stone massage was about $125 and higher for one hour. I paid $5.25.

I am heading off to Cebu on the 4th of July to drop off the truck at Ford for some needed servicing and repairs. That same day I will go to Manila. My golf buddy Bob will be there all week so I might try and hook up with him. The main purpose of the trip is to retrieve my Laptop, GPS and Fat Shaft golf clubs that hopefully will get my game back on track. Of course to see the family as well.

June 28 - Today I played stupendous golf. I hit the ball as good as I can remember and I'll try to remember how I hit them today for tomorrow's round. In the early part of the afternoon I was feeling a combination of boredom and restlessness. There was something I had been wanting to do for a long time and today seemed to be the perfect day to do it. And it was all in fun.
