THIRTY SEVEN July 4 - 11 - Spent this time in Manila. Fairly uneventful trip. Got my other set of Golf Clubs from William and had them regripped. Also got my Laptop and Garmin GPS which I had sent to HK and Taiwan respectively to be repaired. Bought some DVD'S for Lynn and some educational (english and math) software for Joe. Most days had me going to the mall at Glorietta and of course Starbucks where everyone was so happy to see me. Was generally back at Georgie's place by 7pm. Had it all to myself as She, William and Fargo stayed at Benjie's place. I Had massages every night and that's about it. Hardly saw anyone. Went to Cebu on the 11th and spent one night and came back today the 12th. Josett brought me to an Italian food importer where I bought some fine Italian food products for the house. UPDATE: no sooner than two hours after I left on the 4th did the goat meet its maker. I hear the meat was good. I arrived back home to my beloved family at around 4pm.... One of the things that I find so amusing and charming about Lynn is her happy obsession with changing the color of her toes and fingernails on an almost daily basis. I give you One Week in the Life of Lynn's Toes
July 12 - Lynn is really so good with people. She can make anyone no matter what their status feel good and always brings out the best in them. Yesterday, she decided she wanted to eat Lechon so she ordered one from the same people who prepared the goat for her. This one was 16 kilos and cost $50.00. It is amazing how much meat was on this baby pig. The part most people love if done correctly is the skin. It must be crunchy and break off with a slight bending. This one was prepared perfectly. Yummy!!!
Tonight it was delivered and with it she invited a number of people including our helpers family and a few of her other friends. One of those friends is named Ally and she has a granddaughter named Shoby that is so cute and precocious. I must admit I really enjoy having here here. Not a moment goes by when she isn't touching something (mostly my computer) and grabbing me for this or that. Surprisingly it doesn't bother me as it would in the past. I asked Ally if I could borrow her for practice. I hope if we have a daughter and she is as cute as Shoby.
July 17 - Today we went to look at another property in the Dauin area. We have a person helping us who has really taken to Lynn and I must say she is one of the nicest persons I have met anywhere. Her name is Helen but we call her Ati. I really believe she will be the one to find us the property we dream of.
Also today we got a flat tire. It was actually intentional. Long story short...some people here occasionally have fights over who has road access to properties. On the particular road we were on today, there is a feud between three property owners who have different viewpoints of who actually has the road rights. So one of the these owners mistakenly thought we (my truck) were one of the other two and put a nail plank on the road. 5 nails later our front tire was flat. Spent most of the day at the Petron gas station waiting for the tire to come back from Dumaguete where it was being fixed. During this time waiting I saw another great potential commercial promoting a product (like the tricycle scooters) in the making. In this case Flip Flops. Here in the Philippines the majority of people in the Provinces wear Flip Flops. It really comes down to a matter of cost as most can't afford sneakers. Anyway, I saw a basketball game going on across the street from the gas station and no one was holding back. In fact, it was probably about as good a game as you'd find in a stateside street game. The only real difference is here they were playing with Flip Flops. I was amazed at how versatile they all were wearing these things. They really held up throughout all the aggressive fast play. I thought what a great commercial that would make for a Flip Flop maker like Havianna's promoting the longevity and toughness of their Flip Flop.
