FORTY NINE

For those of you not familiar with World War II history, Nettuno is a coastal town located few minutes down the road from Anzio where the Allies landed in Italy and were held back by the Germans for over 5 months resulting in great loss of life. There is a beautiful American and British cemetary located here.

Nettuno was also was part of this landing and is also considered a very important part of the wars history. Nettuno has a constant and wonderfully clean breeze coming off the water. The town is also very clean except for a massive graffiti problem that apparently is plaguing all of Italy. Very sad. The town has nice shops and friendly people that all seem to know one another.

However, three things I find extremely strange:

1. I haven't heard a single car horn and there are many cars driving through Nettuno at any given time;
2. I haven't heard a Single dog bark despite there being many dogs of all breeds including small ones which in general bark the most;
Finally,
3. I haven't heard any babies cry and there are many babies here and strangely enough many of he births are within days or short weeks of each other.

Am I in the town of Stepford LOL

I couldn't get my Globe sim card to work here so I got an Italian sim card and it works perfectly. Since getting the card, I have spoken to Lynn a number of times. I miss her lots and hear that Alex is moving around lots. Today I went to Ikea with Mom and I bought Alex some presents. My next mission it to buy Lynn some sexy clothes and find a gift for Joe. I will do all this when I go to Rome on Friday for about six days.

September 21- Today Mom and Marcello and I went to Rome where I will stay in their apartment for a week. Shortly after arriving by train, we met up with Marcellos daughter Michela. I haven't seen her in over 15 years so it was a nice occasion and she seems very happy and is in fact a newlywed. On Monday, she is going back to (French) St. Martin in the Caribbean where she now lives.

After the meeting Mom and I went ahead to the apartment located in Trastevere which is considered the hippie/bohemian/artsy area of the city.

September 23 - My impressions of Rome since my last visit over 12 years ago is pretty good. It doesn't mean I will want to stay here any longer than a few days but I like what I see. So far I have done a lot of walking and the city is truly beautiful with all the old buildings and wonders of the Roman age. I am amazed at how many tourists there are here now. I can't even count the number of maps I have seen people peering into probably just as lost as I am at any given moment LOL.

Another thing that hasn't changed since my last visit are the designer counterfeit bags you will see being sold on the street. Names like Prada, Luis Viutton and Gucci to name only a few. From what I can tell, they are nicely made and don't seem expensive ranging from about $20.00 to $75.00.
