SEVENTY SEVEN

May 13 - The house Lynn, Alex, Joe and Myself are living is in need of some minor upgrades. One of these involves installation of an air conditioner in the living room and replacement of an existing one with a larger one in the bedroom. We have a large 1 1/2 HP Air Con that we brought from Dumaguete so it was logical to use that one in the living room. Lynn has a construction friend who has done work on her house in Buccana. He is supposedly very good and very reasonably priced so she called on him to do this work on our place in Solareiga. The job involved installing the two air conditioners and providing electric for one. As I mentioned earlier, there was already one Air Con space in our bedroom but it needed to be enlarged. The living room location required an actual new Air Con space cut out of the wall. We also wanted and additional outlet in the bedroom over where our entertainment center will be going. The price we got is so ridiculously low but who is going to argue. For all this we were given a price of about $75.00. Unreal. It is now three days later and I am still in shock about the high quality of this contractor and his assistants work.

So far he has done the following:

1. Enlarged one space for a new air conditioner;
2. Created a new space for another air conditioner;
3. Installed speaker wires in plastic wire coverings and ran them along the walls near the ceiling;
4. Installed a new outlet near where our bedroom entertainment center will be located;
5. Installed a hot water heater in my shower;
6. Is running a new electric power outlet for the 1.5 HP air conditioner downstairs.
7. Putting a custom screen in the downstairs bathroom

I think I might like to use someone like this as a foreman on our Samal House project

May 15 - I also needed someone to repair my Harmon Kardon AVR 125 Stereo Receiver. There is no power coming on the unit when I have it plugged into a 110V step-up/down converter. I called HK in the states and they said it was most likely the unti was not getting the 60hz it needs. I went to the mall and into SM Appliance where they sell electronics and was able to speak to some some sales reps who referred a technician to me. He came to my house later in the week and found out it was a blown transformer. He also fixed one of my converters. The whole bill came out to $30.00 which included a replacement transformer. Amazing as no doubt it would have cost easily over $200 in the States too fix them both including the part.
