EIGHTY THREE May 26 - I never got around to taking photos of the place we are living. It is a two story house of about 900 square feet located about 8km outside of Davao City in a subdivision called Solareiga. It is developed by a company called Crown Asia which is owned by Manny Villar who is the President of the Philippine Senate and also one of the richest men in the Philippines ($490 million dollars). The subdivision is nice enough with simple cookie cutter houses mostly being marketed and sold to OFW's. The main gate is impressive and is manned by armed security guards so you feel safe and secure here. There is a club house with a pool that I have not yet used. The only downside (it is a major one) I find with the development is with the construction quality of the houses being built here. In my opinion they are being built with absolutely the cheapest and most inferior materials possible. Many of the homes owners are complaining of water leaks in the piping and through their roofs. Also cracks in the interior walls most likely from settling and lastly incorrect installation of the plumbing to the septic tank which causes sewage fumes to come back to the bathrooms. The most pressing current problem for us is the lack of water as well as water pressure in our house. This is due to the water not being supplied by the city but instead coming from the Crown Asia itself. The company has not yet not yet secured the permits from the city to use city water due to the city not approving the quality of the water piping Crown is using in its construction. It really is shameful that Villar allows this to go on but for him like so many in this country there are very little morals and corruption is the order of the day. Presently, we are forced to fill buckets and bathe using the water in the buckets and in my case I must heat (too cold for me) the water first on the stove. Despite all this I am quite happy living here as we are providing our own solutions to these issues by having our own contractor fix things. We are also in the process of putting in our own water supply and pressure pump so the water pressure problem will be resolved within a week.
