EIGHTY NINE

July 6 - Tomorrow we head off to Manila for a week. Lynn needs to get her and Joes Canadian Passport current and we will try to get a Philippine passport for Alex. And of course the Diaz clan is anxious to see her.

While I was riding home today from town on the scooter I started to think about what I will miss about the Philippines once I am back in Florida. This is what I came up with.

1. Playing golf on a great golf course for about $10.00 a round.
2. Massages for $9.00;
3. Being able to drive like a maniac and no one cares;
4. The smiling faces of Children and people in general;
5. helper/maid for $100 a month so you never have to lift a finger;
6. Siargao Island where we have a beach property;
7. Samal Island where we have a beach property;
8. Very inexpensive doctors. Office visits with specialists for $9.00 to $25.00. Procedures like MRI. Cat Scan, EKG, etc.... covered by $400 a year insurance;
9. Great Fruit.

Then I started thinking about what I look forward to in Florida

1. Great Diving and Spearfishing in all my old spots yielding plenty of Groupers, Snappers and Lobster;
2. Great golf but for about $25.00 a day;
3. Being close to my old dive/golf buddies;
4. Costco - wholesale warehouse supermarket;
5. Häagen-Dazs ice cream for only $3.00 a pint instead of $11.00 here in the Philippines
;
6. Barbecuing beautiful sirloin steaks on my new Weber grill;
7. Sitting on the back deck of the House enjoying the night air with Lynn, Alex and Joe;
8. Taking the family for scenic boat rides up the Intracoastal Waterway;
9. Driving in accordance with the Law (sucks);
10. Miserable, mean and angry people (sucks).

All in all I am thinking Florida has the advantage but we shall see.

July 7 - 15 Here in Manila to do our errands. Nothing much to report. Tried to do an MRI but again it was too intense for my Claustrophobia and the Anesthesiologist didn't want to take a chance putting me under. So for now I guess I won't know what the problem is with my brain and memory. Alex is great as always and we got some more photos. Sending some big ones to Mom and Marcello which I hope they'll like.

I don't talk enough about my love for Lynn. She is incredible especially in her generosity with those less fortunate. She really knows how to make others feel good about themselves which in itself makes her so special. The following are simple examples but tell the story of this beautiful woman I love so much. For example, gas prices are so high now and the typical taxi driver can barely make a living so when we ride one and say the fare is 40 peso she just gives the driver 100 pesos. It would normally take 20 trips for him to make this in tips. It is only $2.25 to us but to the driver it is so much more. Or buying clothes for a poor friends child. Or how about the Yaya we have had for our trip here in Manila. This girl has taken good care of Alex and Lynn gave her two thousand pesos or about $45.00 for 7 days work. Normally it might take her over a month to earn this much money. She was so happy to have this much money in her wallet at one time which had never happened before in her life. Lynn also helps out the local kids around her place in Davao. There are literally hundreds of other examples. She doesn't look to be recognized or a status symbol. I see so many rich people here that treat the working class like shit and with contempt like they are so special. Lynn does it because it is the right thing to do and won't kill us financially in the process. I guess what I am trying to say is she is a true gift from the Aliens.
