NINETY ONE July 26 - As you are all well aware of I love to play golf. In fact I try to play it almost everyday. Since I started playing at APO my game has been mostly that of a hacker little changed from Dumaguete. I took some lessons with teaching pro Pabling and it did seem to have a positive effect on my game when I stuck to it. That's actually the real problem. Golf requires repetition until you subconsciously memorize the things you should be doing. Most players including myself tend to fall back into bad habits. Well that has changed and I hope for good. I found a caddie at APO that is also a scratch handicap and has a pro rating. For about the past two weeks I have used Boyet exclusively to help me improve my game. In the past no matter what I did I just couldn't find any consistency. Well Boyet has been just what I needed. He changed many aspects of my game. My stance, distance from the ball, and time to address (think abut what I will do) the ball before each hit. It has worked. Last week I shot a four over par 40 for nine holes at APO Golf Course from the blue tees. It was my best round ever for nine holes. I was very excited to say the least. It included two double bogeys and 7 pars for a 40 total. After this I managed to go back to my usually crappy game shooting 49, 50, 51, etc.... Well imagine my excitement when today I shot a three over par 39 but from the white tees. I was like shocked. But the really cool part in all this is it appears that I am starting to have swing memory meaning that I am becoming more consistent and repetitive in duplicating a good swing time after time. Its so amazing when you hit a shot from 200 yards away and it lands 5 feet from the pin. Today I was on Eight Greens in regulation. In fact up until the 9th hole I was only one over par. On the 9th hole I hooked my drive left onto another fairway (the 18th). My 2nd shot hit a tree and believe it or not went to the far left of that same fairway. I hit a weak 3rd shot using a 9 iron back to the 9th fairway and then pitched and rolled a 7 iron for my 4th shot right into the bunker in front of the 9th green. I managed to get my 5th shot out and within 4 feet of the pin and then took a 6 for a double bogey for my 3 over par. Having said all that, even more amazing is I had at least 4 putts that should have been birdies but I missed them. Here is my card from today.
