June 3 - Raining here. Was planning to play golf. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. Sunday we have decided to leave for Manila. Joe will definitely be leaving for Canada next week in order to get into Summer school for the purpose of catching up on his studies for the Upper Case School he will start in September. He is very excited. So are we about this new direction in his life for the better. On the subject of children I am finding fatherhood pretty cool. I get to see Joe grow up and how he loves his independence and developing his own personality. He is such a good kid that he needs no lectures about anything. He doesn't use profanity, drugs, cigarettes, hang out with a bad element, etc, etc... Almost perfect like. This is actually no aberration here in the Philippines. This is mostly the norm. This is what will most likely keep us here full time until Alex is an adult as I don't want to expose her to the crap that exists as a rule back in the states and the entire western world for that matter. Too bad as I like the States. I am sure I will feel the same about Canada. We shall see as things develop. I am also starting to spend more time with Alex. Even though I find it strange talking to a little girl that keeps pointing into empty space at nothing in particular and making noises that in no way resemble words I still enjoy it and she makes me smile and laugh. We try to go on a walk everyday ending it with my giving her a shoulder ride back home. We also try to get in some study time. Right now we are reading a book "How Things Work". It is actually quite fascinating and will help me as well when she starts hitting me with questions about "cloud formation" and "where lightening comes" from or the classic "why is the sky blue"...you get the picture. She enjoys looking at the pictures while I read to her. I am concerned about one thing. She is a total Klutz. She steps off curbs without looking down to see the drop. She runs like she has those classic two left feet. Perhaps this is normal for a 15 month old. I hope so. Another thing I am concerned with is schooling. I am hearing mixed reviews of public and even localized private schools here in the Philippines. Some say the kids are way more advanced than their American counterparts and others say the complete opposite. One thing for sure is kids do enjoy schools here as can be seen from the picture below. Whether they learn anything is a different matter. I think once she hits grade school it will be the British School (in Manila) for Alex as it is rated the number one school academically in the World within the British School System which in itself is tops among International Private Schools.
Here are some photos from the British School. Wonder which school gets my vote?
